Volunteers continue cleanup at Blue Heron Park as board plans longer-term restoration

“Our last work party was a small but mighty group of people, and we're still basically just primarily doing cleanup because there's so much to do over there,” Holman said, describing work concentrated along the stream and the need to remove hazardous black locust trees with a qualified contractor because that work requires specialized treatment.
Holman told members she would meet with a park-restoration consultant to explore options for planting and erosion control, and she said local students are participating in stewardship activities. The board discussed irrigation, signage and a multi-year horizon for bringing the park closer to the desired condition; volunteers were invited to the next second-Saturday work party (9 a.m.–noon).
Board members noted some removal work will exceed volunteer capabilities and may require contracting with an arborist experienced in inoculation and specialized removals. The board did not take a formal vote but set follow-up tasks: coordinating with the consultant, soliciting qualified bids for significant tree work and continuing volunteer work parties.
