Clarkdale proclaims October 2025 Domestic Violence Awareness Month; local shelter outlines service surge

The Clarkdale Town Council read and accepted a proclamation declaring October 2025 Domestic Violence Awareness Month at its Oct. 14 meeting.
Holly Hulin, a board member of the Verde Valley Sanctuary, thanked the council and described the agency's services and recent trends. She said the Sanctuary provided services to more than 1,500 survivors in fiscal year 2024–25, delivered nearly 9,500 bed nights between emergency shelter and transitional housing, and answered almost 1,300 crisis hotline calls — a 28% increase from the prior year. "There is still much work to do," Hulin said, urging continued partnerships across public, private and nonprofit sectors.
Council members voted to approve the proclamation; town staff presented the proclamation to Hulin and Jesse Johnson (executive director). Hulin provided the Sanctuary crisis hotline numbers and a web address for those seeking help.
The proclamation directs the town to reaffirm support for survivors, raise awareness and coordinate resources with local organizations; no implementation budget or new program was approved as part of the proclamation vote.
