Clarkdale OKs purchase of two electric police trucks, using federal grant funding
Summary
The council approved the purchase and upfitting of two Ford F‑150 Lightning electric trucks and radios not to exceed $200,000, noting a $141,000 Arizona Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant will offset costs; charging‑station installation costs are still being finalized.

The Clarkdale Town Council voted Oct. 14 to authorize the town manager to execute documents for the purchase of two Ford F‑150 Lightning electric trucks, Motorola radios and upfitting not to exceed $200,000.
Public Works Director Lou Anderson said the town secured a $141,000 grant from the Arizona Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program to help fund the purchase. Anderson provided itemized figures: two Ford Lightning trucks at about $56,004.16 each (total ~$112,008.32), Motorola radios estimated at $14,000, and vehicle upfitting by Arizona Emergency Products at about $36,889.19 per vehicle (total ~$73,778). The combined price for vehicles, radios and upfitting was presented as roughly $199,786.70, with the council's vehicle budget at $241,000.
Anderson and staff noted charging‑station installation cost estimates remain under refinement (staff cited roughly $10,000–$18,000 per install) and that the charging design work is not yet complete; council members said the town will not vote on the charging work at this meeting.
Council moved and approved the purchase by voice vote; staff said one vehicle is expected to be assigned to the school resource officer pending final assignment decisions, and vendors estimate delivery within months after order and upfitting.
The council asked staff to proceed with procurement and ensure charging‑station planning continues so vehicles can be integrated when the infrastructure is ready.
