TUSD hires internal auditor and several administrators; staff and students honored

After the audit committee's recommendation, the board appointed Paul Houston as internal auditor in a 3–2 vote following discussion from members who said timing was a concern. The board also approved Tanisha Johnson as director of African American Student Services, Jason Fried as director of employee relations, Diana Reyes as director of human resources, Norma Gonzalez as principal of Tucson High Magnet School, and Christine Georgielos as principal of Line Weaver Elementary. Most of those appointments passed unanimously.
Earlier in the meeting Superintendent Trujillo and Region 4 assistant superintendent Shauna Rodriguez recognized Mary Portillo for nearly 40 years of service to TUSD and presented a student recognition to Zoe Sogorno Armbruster for academic and extracurricular achievements, including state braille championships and varsity athletics.
What happens next: Appointees present at the meeting will join their roles in coming weeks; appointees present were invited for a receiving line and photo at the dais.
