Jury opens and closes public hearings on speed limit and Hackberry Fire District boundary corrections, then approves map amendments

The Cameron Parish Police Jury opened a public hearing Aug. 5 on proposed amendments to the motor vehicles and traffic ordinance (chapter 14, article 3, section 14‑35) to add Parish Road 4114 (Clump Lane) to roads posted at 15 mph. Staff reported no written or oral comments; the hearing was closed and the matter was returned to the agenda for formal action.

The jury also opened a public hearing on geographic boundary corrections for Division 2 of Hackberry Fire Protection District No. 1. Staff read a detailed legal description of the corrected boundaries and cited relevant provisions of the Louisiana Revised Statutes concerning fire district creation and boundaries. Jurors asked clarifying questions about whether the change affected taxation districts; staff confirmed the corrections did not change taxation districts but rather corrected the written boundary descriptions to match the original Tobin maps. After closing the hearing the jury made and approved a motion to amend the district boundaries as described in the public notice.

Both hearings proceeded with little public input; staff emphasized that the boundary amendment is an update to written descriptions and does not alter taxation. The jurors voted to close the hearings and approved the geographic boundary amendment for the Hackberry Fire Protection District.
