The Cameron Parish Police Jury met Aug. 5, 2024, in a voting session and approved a package of routine items including drilling and utility permits, board appointments, contract renewals and notices to voters for upcoming local elections.
The meeting opened with a motion to adopt the June 2024 minutes, which passed by voice vote. The jury then approved drilling and development permits for Salford River Exploration and Energy Louisiana LLC, a permit for Charles Hebert to install utilities for an RV, and an after‑the‑fact emergency permit for A & R Pipeline Company (Lowry) to repair discovered anomalies.
Appointments and reappointments were a sizable portion of the agenda. The jury appointed Terry Faught to Ambulance Service District No. 2, processed multiple reappointments and letters of appreciation for departing members, and tabled action on several seats pending further review. The fiscal‑year 2023 financial statement audit report was presented but tabled at staff request until next month.
The jury approved renewals and contract actions including employee group insurance (hospitalization renewed; dental and vision changed to Guardian), renewal of the PCard Group contract, and a $5,000 platinum sponsorship for the Cameron Fishing Festival. Accounting policy updates and acceptance of monthly financial statements (budget-to-actual comparisons) were also approved.
On capital projects, the jury approved a small increase for the North Cameron Emergency Operations Center (EOC) contract and a 30‑day time extension for the OEP Pavilion contract. The jury also authorized the county attorney to advertise abandonment of Parish Road 214.
The jury authorized publication of election notices in the Cameron Pilot for the Nov. 5, 2024 election covering ad valorem propositions for several local districts including Hackberry Fire Protection District No. 1, Fire Protection District No. 15, South Cameron Consolidated Water Works District No. 1 and Gravity Drainage District No. 9. Staff also presented and the jury approved public notices related to Recreation District No. 5’s proposed in‑lieu ad valorem millage (9.3 mills).
Staff presented nuisance‑abatement items for two properties (120 Shirley Drive, Grand Lake; 108 Alvin Guidry Circle, Hackberry), reported contact attempts with owners (one owner deceased, one property adjudicated to the parish) and recommended the lowest bids; the jury authorized the cleanups and the use of liens if necessary.
A resolution designating firearm‑free zones for school properties was adopted. Before adjourning to executive session, the jury approved payment of bills and several routine housekeeping motions.
