Onslow County libraries roll out ASL classes, Books & Barks and a Youth Astronaut program

"This is our brand new spring newsletter for the quarter," Parks said, noting 24 pages of programming. She outlined beginner American Sign Language classes in Richlands (twice monthly) and Jacksonville (Tuesday afternoons), a Books & Barks reading program where 5–10 year olds read to therapy dogs at Swansboro and Jacksonville branches, and a Youth Astronaut program in Sneads Ferry for students in grades 5–9 that pairs hands-on activities with online educator sessions.
Parks also described baby book clubs at the main branch (limited groups of about 10 families) and encouraged residents to consult branch calendars, a digital newsletter and the library’s online calendar. The library uses Facebook and TikTok to share programming and branch-specific displays.
No policy or funding changes were announced; Parks focused on program schedules and registration paths.
