The Yellow Springs Exempted Village School Board on Tuesday unanimously approved a resolution condemning harassment and violence directed at the Springfield Haitian community.
The resolution grew from discussions with the village council, which passed a similar statement; board leaders said they planned to join that outreach. Speakers recounted a recent surge in threats and disruptions in Springfield that affected schools and higher‑education institutions; one administrator said Wittenberg University was closed for a week amid threats.
Superintendent (speaker 5) said the district deplores such actions and stated, “This district condemns hate in all of its forms.” Several board members expressed pride in supporting the resolution ahead of the roll call, which recorded five yes votes and no opposition.
The board asked administrators to coordinate presentation of the resolution with village leaders and community groups supporting Springfield’s Haitian population.
