Dr. Chris Gaines, CEO of EdPlus, told the Rockwood School District Board on Thursday that the recently completed legislative session largely spared schools from deep cuts but left several measures that will require local action and could reduce district revenue.
Gaines said the regular session wrapped up May 16 and the later special session produced an unexpected package that includes a broad property-tax approach that freezes bills for some homeowners and creates three county categories: complete freeze, a limited increase category (capped at 5 percent or CPI, whichever is greater), or exempt counties. He warned that districts may be ‘‘five months into the budget year before they know what the impact of that’s gonna be.’’
