Nutrition staff report: more than 35,000 summer meals served; menu tweaks and a $16,000 grant cited

The presenter said the department participated in the Summer Feeding Program at six GRPS locations and that the team had generated $16,000 in grant funding that expired June 30. Over the summer the nutrition team reported it served more than 35,000 meals; the presenter said the district’s annual count across GRPS cafeterias is roughly 2.6 million meals.
Planned menu changes for the upcoming school year include more whole‑grain options, new sandwich varieties and additional salad‑station capacity in some schools. The department said it plans to create student taste‑testing events and to use a small vendor competition to encourage innovation among cooks.
Officials noted some grant funding is not guaranteed to renew and said capital spending for new equipment is expected to be relatively flat compared with the prior year. No formal budget or procurement vote for nutrition purchases occurred at the meeting.
