Hamlet City council on Tuesday voted to call a public hearing Aug. 13 on a petition filed by Wayne Stagner to annex land for a highway convenience store.
City manager (name not provided) told the council the application meets the requirements for a satellite annexation and asked the council only to call the public hearing. “This is a satellite annexation for a 7 11 store,” the city manager said, describing the site as being on the highway near an old gas station.
A councilmember moved to call the hearing; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. Councilors noted the site’s proximity to a gas company and described the location as near Lewis Bridal and the intersection on 38 Highway.
The public hearing will give residents an opportunity to comment before the council takes any final action on annexation. No final annexation decision was made at the meeting; the motion simply set the hearing date and instructed staff to proceed with the required notice and paperwork.
