Wyoming City School District staff presented the district's 2024–25 calendar and a slate of back-to-school events at the board's regular summer meeting.
The district said principals will send families back-to-school messages on Aug. 1 with event details. Students in grades 1 through 12 are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Aug. 14, and kindergarten's first regular day is set for Friday, Aug. 16. Back-to-school activities begin the week of Aug. 5; specific events include a college application boot camp for seniors the week of Aug. 5 and a seniors' painting event on Aug. 6. A "Meet the Wyoming High School Principal" reception is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 12 at 5:00 p.m.; a fifth-grade welcome and open house follows that evening.
Curriculum nights are set through late August (middle school nights starting Aug. 20 and the high school curriculum night Aug. 29), and the district is planning a new YMCA-sponsored family cookout for families new to the district on Friday, Aug. 23. Staff said calendars (the online calendar and the mailed 2024–25 printed calendar) include specifics for date, time and location.
"We're excited to have kids coming back very, very soon," the superintendent said, summarizing the district's preparations for staff and student transitions.
The district also announced new administrators for the high school: Michael Voynovich as high school principal and Sarah McMullen as assistant principal. Administrators will welcome new staff on Aug. 7 for orientation ahead of the first day of classes.
The board noted the next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 26. The article draws its details from the district's community engagement presentation to the board during the meeting.
