The Hastings-on-Hudson Board of Education voted Aug. 27 to appoint Daniel Waldick Jr. as assistant principal at Farragut Middle School.
Dr. McKersie, the district superintendent, told the board the hire followed a broad, competitive search: "This gentleman competed with 140, hundred and 50 people," he said, and the field was narrowed to five finalists interviewed by a committee of parents, teachers and administrators. The superintendent said he and building leader Scott Wynne thoroughly vetted references before advancing Waldick.
Sylvia, who presided over the meeting in the president's absence, moved to approve the appointment; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Board members welcomed Waldick and praised the vetting process, noting the district had authorized the superintendent to fill the position over the summer to avoid losing strong candidates.
The appointment also carried related administrative assignments: the board approved resolutions to appoint a supervisor of attendance and a Dignity Act coordinator for Farragut Middle School, positions the board said are part of the assistant principal responsibilities.
The superintendent said the district will continue onboarding work with building leaders and staff as the school year opens Sept. 3.
