Principals report summer work: enrollment upticks, staffing and new secondary schedule

District administrators provided a slate of summer updates, citing staffing, enrollment and schedule changes as the district prepares for the school year.

Cassie, the elementary principal, said teams prepared the buildings and thanked custodial staff by name for summer work. She reported the district’s food service served about 3,300 breakfasts and more than 6,000 lunches across June, July and part of August. She also said enrollment staff recorded 17 registrations over the summer, including six students entering fourth grade.

Jesse Rasmussen, the secondary principal, described daily summer activity in the high school building and said he finalized student schedules and released them to families. ‘It’s been really fun for me to see the building,’ Rasmussen said. He described a substantive schedule change for next year: a five-period day in secondary school with English and math offered every other day throughout the year so students have continuity in those subjects through 10th grade.

On extracurriculars, the activities presenter reported fall practices have begun for grades 7–12 in cross country, football and volleyball. The board heard a plan to align multiple volleyball matches at the same site on eight dates to reduce travel conflicts for families; junior-high schedules will be coordinated with partner sites.

Board members thanked administrators for the work and asked for continued communication as staff and coaches finalize assignments. The district reiterated that new staff orientation will take place Aug. 20.
