Administrators presented a consolidated PAYNESVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT handbook Monday that merges the elementary and secondary guides and calls out practices already in use.
The handbook, drafted from the MSBA model and existing district policies, centralizes sections on academics, rules and discipline, health and safety, and miscellaneous information. Jesse Rasmussen, the secondary principal, said the handbook ‘starts off with some general district information’ and includes both school-specific and districtwide items.
Cassie, the elementary principal, told the board the consolidation aims to make key information easier for families to find. ‘We have more in common than we don't,’ she said, adding administrators moved away from a redlined draft to a clean version for easier navigation.
Key additions flagged for the board were an explicit PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) section and material on MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports). The handbook also introduces an optional classroom directory that families may opt into; the directory is intended to help parents share invitations and contact information while remaining voluntary.
The draft also clarifies practices already in place—such as the district’s cell-phone policy—and links to master agreements and other staff documents for quick reference. The superintendent said the documents are informational at this meeting and will appear on the board agenda for approval at the end of the month.
Board members commended the work and urged continued review; administrators asked trustees to flag any items that need further clarification before formal adoption.
