The Cary CCSD 26 board approved a $10,615,119 bid from Tyler Lane Construction to renovate Deer Path Elementary and finish work at 3 Oaks this summer, funded by the district referendum; one board member voted no during the roll call.
The Cary Community Consolidated School District 26 Board of Education voted Monday to award a construction contract to Tyler Lane Construction for $10,615,119 to renovate Deer Path Elementary School and complete work at 3 Oaks Elementary during the summer of 2026.
Mr. Shepherd, the district administrator who presented the recommendation, said the work is the second phase of referendum-funded construction. He told the board bids were solicited in January, a mandatory pre-bid meeting drew multiple contractors, and three bids were received; Tyler Lane's proposal was judged the most responsive by the district's architect and administration.
"We would recommend that the board approve the bid by Tyler Lane Construction in the amount of $10,615,119," Shepherd said, noting the work also includes window replacement projects previously approved and that additional referendum phases will cover junior high renovation and parking improvements later.
Board members questioned whether union or skilled labor would be used and confirmed the district's prevailing-wage obligations; Shepherd said the projects will use skilled labor and that the work will be funded with referendum bond proceeds. During roll call on the motion one board member, Catherine Potter, registered a "No"; other members voted to approve the bid and the motion passed.
Tyler Lane representatives were present at the meeting for questions. The board did not identify any amendments to the scope when it approved the contract Monday evening.
