Michael (speaker 6) reported that the town received a $2,000,000 CDBG award in March 2020 from the North Carolina Department of Commerce (rural economic development division) to extend sewer and water lines to a production facility identified as Breakbush Brothers; the grant committed the project to creating 244 full‑time jobs. Michael told the board that the project’s sewer and water line extensions are complete and that the company now reports 390 full‑time employees, exceeding the job commitment. He noted the state had not yet completed a monitoring review and the town planned to submit closeout documentation and request the state monitoring visit needed to finalize closeout.
Michael also summarized a second infrastructure award: in October 2021 Patel (project name recorded as Liberty Storage Solutions) was awarded a $250,000 CDBG to extend sewer service to a production facility on 224 Industrial Boulevard. The company committed to creating 28 new full‑time jobs and Michael reported that those 28 additional positions have been created. As with the earlier project, state monitoring had not been completed and the town planned to file closeout paperwork.
No public speakers opposed either closeout during the hearings. Because these were closeout hearings, the board had no substantive action to take at this meeting beyond recording the public process and preparing the state closeout submission.
