The Mocksville Town Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted the fiscal year 2025–26 budget after a public hearing at its meeting in the annex building.
Lee (speaker 4), speaking for the administration, said the budget process began in December and April sessions helped refine proposals. The board proposed maintaining the tax rate at $0.29 per $100 valuation. Lee reported the general fund is balanced at $8,484,803 and the water and sewer fund is balanced at $5,949,200; a small, fragmentary figure appeared in the transcript as “$96” and was not clarified during the meeting.
The nut of the budget, Lee told commissioners, reflects multiple rounds of staff and commissioner review and is intended to preserve current services while funding capital needs. No members of the public spoke during the budget hearing.
The board moved to adopt the budget; the motion was seconded and the board approved it by voice vote. At the same meeting the board also adopted two year‑end budget amendments: Budget Amendment No. 5 (enterprise fund, $68,000) and Budget Amendment No. 6 (general fund, $60,000). A town staff member presented those amendments before each was approved by voice vote.
The adoption follows the administration’s presentation that Lynn (finance staff) led the budget preparation. Commissioners and staff praised the budget process as clear and well organized during post‑vote remarks. The board later moved into closed session to discuss real property acquisition, a procedural step separate from the budget vote.
What’s next: The town will implement the adopted spending plan for FY 2025–26; the meeting record shows no additional public hearings on the budget at this session.
