Mocksville's fire department told the council it has received a $18,251 grant from the Lieutenant Joseph DeBernardo Foundation to purchase modern bailout systems and pay for vendor training.
Chief Carter announced the award and said the grant covered equipment purchases paid directly to vendors. CJ, who presented details about the equipment, said roughly $15,000 of the grant went to 30 integrated bailout kits and about $2,500 covered vendor‑led training required by the grant. "Each one of these systems are about $5,600 apiece," CJ said, and explained that the new bailout devices integrate with turnout gear to enable hands‑free fall control and safer window egress in emergency rescues.
All equipment had been delivered and the vendor is scheduled to provide two days of training in February 2026. Council thanked the fire department and noted the grant reduced the town's equipment costs for an essential public‑safety upgrade.
