Dorchester District 2 board awards CMAR contract to Hood Construction, adjusts calendar and affirms enrollment recommendation

"But tonight's recommendation is for Hood Construction to construct the elementary school in the Ponds," Dr. Robbins said. Board member Miss Hughes moved to accept the recommendation; Miss Crosby seconded. The motion carried, 6 in favor, 1 absent.
Why it matters: the CMAR approach includes a guaranteed maximum price and an agreed timeline that district staff said will protect the district financially and on schedule during construction.
The board also approved two calendar changes after recent weather-related cancellations. Dr. Robbins recommended the board waive the district's fourth statutory weather makeup day (the board has authority to waive days 4–6) and move the previously scheduled third makeup day from Saturday, May 31, to Monday, Jan. 6. Miss Powell moved the calendar changes and Miss Hughes seconded; the board approved both changes in a single vote, 6 in favor, 1 absent.
During the meeting the board convened in executive session to consider a student-enrollment recommendation. After returning to open session, the board voted to uphold the administration's recommendation regarding the student (motion by Miss Hughes; second by Miss Bates). The vote was recorded as 6 in favor, 1 absent.
What happened procedurally: the consent agenda was approved earlier in the meeting. The board corrected a citizens advisory review team orientation date, setting it for Sept. 19 at the McKissick Museum; Hood Construction and district maintenance staff will be introduced at that orientation.
