Board accepts resignations and approves teacher and bus-driver contracts

At the meeting the Fairfield Union Local board accepted multiple personnel actions and approved contract renewals.

The board accepted the resignation of Lori Byers as high-school language-arts teacher and student-council advisor, effective July 3, 2024. The board also accepted the resignation of Charlie Roberts as assistant maintenance employee, effective July 12, 2024.

Superintendent Bellville presented a one-year contract for Luke Horn as high-school language-arts teacher beginning with the 2024–25 school year. Bellville said Horn is coming from Licking Heights, has prior teaching experience at Sheridan High School and community-college teaching experience, and that "over the past 3 years at Licking Heights, he increased their test scores over 20% in seventh grade ELA." The board approved the one-year teacher contract following a motion and second.

The board also approved a one-year support-services contract for Todd (Tom) Holbrook as a bus driver for the 2024–25 year. Bellville noted Holbrook's prior driving experience with Lancaster City Schools and Bloom Carroll School District and with Greyhound bus service.

Separately, the board approved supplemental personnel contracts as presented after removing item number 18 (Jessica Howell/House) from consideration at this meeting. The volunteers list for athletics and activities was approved; board members noted many of the volunteers have served previously.

All personnel motions were moved, seconded and approved by recorded voice or roll-call votes as shown on the agenda.
