West Hempstead board elects Karen Grove president, confirms appointments and committees

Board members nominated Grove and then voted by voice; the motion passed without a roll-call tally. Trustees also nominated and approved a vice president. The board approved a package of appointments and external providers including Christine Greco as deputy district clerk, Steve Barrine as district treasurer, Gina Gandolfo as deputy district treasurer, Colin Mandanowski as external auditor, BBS Architects as district architect, Michael Kearns as claims auditor and Serene and Associates as internal auditor.
The board confirmed standing committees and liaisons for the year — building and grounds assignments, sports, policy, audit and evaluation — and left several committee memberships unchanged for continuity. Administrative housekeeping items also passed: continuation of the IRS mileage rate for district travel and petty cash authorizations set at $100 per building for the 2024–25 school year.
During the meeting the presiding officer read the names of nearly two dozen district roles and asked the board to move them as a block. "So I'm gonna stop there just to pass those, appointments," the presiding officer said before asking for and receiving a motion; members responded with oral 'ayes' and the motion was recorded as passed.
The board also adjusted the timeline for the destruction of ballots related to an earlier election, amending a docket so destroyed materials would not be disposed of until after an August 20 date that allows a FOIL requester a window to inspect the records.
The board scheduled follow-up discussion and administrative votes for its August 20 meeting when several items that require public posting or a waiting period are expected to return for final action.
