The Saranac Lake Central School District Board of Education on July 2, 2024 assigned members across standing committees, set a retreat date and voted to enter executive session to discuss pending litigation.
Committee assignments announced included the Safety Committee (chair Scott Pruitt with members Doreen and Zach), Facilities Planning (chair Vernon James with Nancy, the Chair and Mike), Professional Development and Technology (consolidated under Melissa Butler), Wellness (chair Ruth Bien with Justin and Tori), Community Connections (chair Erica Bezail with Mike and Zach) and an Athletic Review Committee run by Forrest Morgan. The board noted the audit committee is the full board and confirmed building liaisons (for example, Bloomingdale Elementary liaison Nancy).
The board also set a retreat for Wednesday, Aug. 21, planning a 6:30 p.m. start, and asked the board clerk to attend to discuss board'clerk interactions and administrative needs. The Chair encouraged informal discussion time at the retreat to strengthen board working relationships.
Late in the meeting the Chair requested a motion to move to executive session to discuss proposed, pending or current litigation. A board member (Mike) moved and Zach seconded; the board approved the motion and entered executive session.
The school business executive said Mosaic (the district architect/vendor) is working with staff on a five-year facilities plan and that initial project lists will shape spring capital planning.
