Saranac Lake board outlines onboarding packet and hears program, capital and staffing updates

Board members proposed a living binder or single-source online folder to orient new trustees, listing core items (policy manual, district map, annual board timeline, key contacts and first-six-month priorities). One board member urged a printed or easily navigable packet, saying a short in-person orientation with the school business executive would greatly help new trustees find their purview and key documents.
Staff and administrators reported on several program highlights: a Saturday Academy that drew families to Bloomingdale School, a new marine-technology program being offered to upper-grade students, athletics and student-recognition events, and student field trips. Teachers described grade-level instructional work to align curriculum to standards and Regents expectations.
On capital projects, staff said current work is progressing and that using unassigned fund balance to time borrowing for multiple projects together can reduce overall borrowing costs. The board also discussed whether to nominate an additional representative to the BOCES Board and agreed not to nominate an extra representative at this time to avoid duplicating local representation.
The meeting closed with routine announcements and adjournment.
