Board accepts $90,000 in Hastings Education Foundation grants including Imani Winds residency

The Hastings Education Foundation (HEF) announced seven grants the group will fund next year, and the Hastings-on-Hudson Board of Education voted to accept the awards at its June 27 meeting.
Michelle Greenwald, co-president of the HEF, outlined grants that include a staff-room makeover at Hillside Elementary, an Imani Winds master class assembly and evening concert for middle- and high-school students and the broader community, a Raku ceramics residency at Hastings High School, a competitive robotics program for grades 9212, and three districtwide grants: a Cochrane Gym and Reynolds Field sound-system upgrade, expanded restorative-practices work, and continued partnership with Facing History and Ourselves.
Greenwald said the grants were selected to align with the districts portrait of a Hastings learner and to support teacher-led proposals. "The Hastings Education Foundation is thrilled and honored to fund the following seven grants," she told the board.
Board members and community speakers thanked HEF volunteers and donors; one parent thanked Greenwald and Kim Meisner (not present) for their leadership. The board then moved and seconded a motion to accept the 202425 HEF grant awards and approved the motion by voice vote ("Aye").
The adoption means the district will proceed with purchase orders and implementation steps for items with lead times such as the outdoor sound system and planned programming. Timing and detailed schedules for individual grants were discussed at the meeting but are being set as fundraising and procurement proceed.
Next steps: the district will issue purchase orders for equipment with long lead times and coordinate school- and district-level scheduling for assemblies, residencies and team activities.
