District flags audits, bid reviews and electric-bus infrastructure as major summer tasks

District business staff reported to the board on July 9 that internal and external fiscal audits for the 2023–24 year are under way and must be reported to the state by Oct. 15. Staff said six bids were issued this week—including an RFP to hire architects and engineers for pre-bond work—and that emergency repair bids for the Burke Estate drainage issue were opened and will be reviewed; the district expects to bring recommendations back to the board, possibly at a short-notice special meeting to ensure repairs start before fall programs.

On transportation, staff described the state’s electric-bus timetable: after Jan. 2026 districts will no longer be able to purchase gas buses and must plan for electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, garage space and maintenance. The district said it is investigating feasible locations for bus storage—potentially property near the end of Farragut—and exploring grant opportunities to fund charging infrastructure; staff warned the grid and local utility capacity could be constraints and that implementing infrastructure will take multiple years.

Administrators noted ongoing classroom renovations at Hillside, sidewalk repairs near Burke Estate and other summer maintenance tasks. The district asked trustees for permission to pursue architect and engineer recommendations as part of pre-bond preparation and said it will circulate materials for a proposed special meeting next week to handle time-sensitive contract awards.
