Madison County Board tables cell-tower item, approves plats, speed humps and federal funding request

Madison County's Board of Supervisors on March 2 tabled a citizen's request about a cell-tower matter and approved a series of routine planning, road and funding items.
Chair Scott Wiges opened the meeting and recognized a citizen who identified himself as Scott Wiges and asked the board to consider item 61, a discussion about cell towers. Supervisor Griffin moved to postpone the item to the board's next meeting on March 16 to allow more information to be gathered; Supervisor Banks seconded and the board agreed to table the item. As Griffin put it during the meeting, "So I'm a make a motion that we, move it down to the next meetings." The board set the item for the next meeting for further deliberation.
The board approved planning items for the Crosby Place subdivision, taking up item 54 (a preliminary plat) and item 55 (a final plat). With Tim Bryant absent, staff presented the plats and board members moved and seconded approval of both items.
Also on the agenda, the board approved a petition in District 5 to install three speed humps after staff said the petition complied with the county's traffic-calming policy. The board authorized a subcontract to finish remaining work on Reunion Parkway Phase 2 (described in minutes as a fence) and approved a request to send a letter to the Mississippi Department of Transportation asking that an earmarked federal appropriation be applied to the Bozeman 1 project. In the meeting transcript the amount discussed was stated as "2,000,000,000." Staff said lobbyists will provide details about how those funds would be applied at a future meeting.
Sheriff Tucker brought the MDOC billing for December, saying, "If we can just acknowledge that," and reported problems at the county jail that he urged supervisors to inspect. The board acknowledged the MDOC billing of $2,565.50 and discussed following up on jail facility issues at an upcoming meeting.
The board also agreed to advertise for an assistant veteran services officer to replace Casey Davis, who will be departing the office, and approved routine budget amendments and interfund cash transfers. The board recessed into an executive session on litigation and later reported no action was taken during that closed session.
Next steps: the cell-tower item will return to the board agenda on March 16; staff said lobbyists would report back about the federal appropriation at a future meeting and staff will proceed with the recruitment posting for the veteran services position.
