Council asks for full KLC data after proposal to raise mayor's pay

Councilor Tyson Hermes presented a spreadsheet from the Kentucky League of Cities and argued Erlanger should begin increasing the part-time mayor’s salary to reflect duties and encourage qualified candidates.
"My thought would be to try to get it more toward the averages, to get that salary closer to $50,000 per year, but I definitely don't want to make that jump at one time," Hermes said, suggesting an interim increase (for example, reallocating savings to reach about $27,000 as a step).
Several council members pushed back on process: they asked for the raw Excel so the data can be filtered by comparable forms of government and full-time/part-time mayors; some said it is inappropriate to pursue pay increases in an election year and requested staff provide organizational context (assistant administrators, department heads) before any decision. Hermes asked staff to provide an updated org chart and said he would proceed to draft language if the council did not object.
Council did not vote on pay at caucus; the mayor's office agreed to circulate the KLC spreadsheet and staff were asked to return with additional data for further consideration.
