Fire and police reports show monthly activity; police encourage package pickup at safety center

The council received the village’s October safety reports on Nov. 20, covering both fire and police activity.
The fire department reported 53 total incidents in October, including seven structural fires, three other fires, one vehicle fire, six auto accidents, five hazmat incidents, and several service calls and alarms. Mutual aid was both given to neighboring jurisdictions and received in limited instances; fire personnel completed training and refresher courses this month.
The police department report, as stated to council, listed 452 total contacts involving 615 calls for service and 518 other service details not necessarily called in by the public. The October figures included 32 criminal offenses that the report said resulted in 71 arrests, 34 traffic citations, 59 traffic warnings and 15 speeding violations. Officers responded to 20 accidents, four of which included injuries, and the department provided multiple mutual-aid responses.
As a holiday-season reminder, staff advised residents they may ask that packages be held at the safety center for pickup with valid identification to reduce porch theft risk.
