Wilmington fleet study inventories nearly 700 vehicles and flags about 100 for replacement

A staff member told the Clean Energy Advisory Committee that ICF, the consultant working on Wilmington’s fleet electrification study, has completed the initial vehicle inventory and replacement recommendations. "We finally got all of the vehicles from the fire station as well as golf course equipment and vehicles... close to 700 vehicles," the staff member said, and added that about "probably close to a 100 vehicles that if you're going just by the vehicle age or mileage, they should be replaced, like, now."
The committee heard that task 1 (inventory and replacement recommendations) may be invoiced soon and submitted for reimbursement under the grant that funds the study. Task 2 will evaluate EV‑charging infrastructure needs at city sites and associated site work.
Staff said the study’s timeline remains on track for a February or March completion, though that could slip. Committee members noted the large number of vehicles and recommended using the study results to stagger future replacements and plan funding instead of purchasing replacements immediately.
The committee discussed coordinating fleet replacement planning with budget requests and with the proposed City Council briefing so councilors understand options and trade-offs between immediate replacements and awaiting recommended vehicle types from the study.
