Council approves $3.99 million contract and related funding for Wisteria/Clearbrook drainage project Stage 2

The Wilmington City Council unanimously approved three companion items on Jan. 20 to advance Stage 2 of the Wisteria/Clearbrook drainage improvement project.
Assistant Public Works Director Aaron Beckner said the stage extends from Dogwood Lane to Camellia Lane and is intended to reduce flooding, improve long-term drainage maintenance and enhance water quality into Hewletts Creek. Staff presented: (1) an ordinance appropriating up to $118,700 to be reimbursed by Cape Fear Public Utility Authority for utility relocations, (2) a resolution awarding a construction contract to Wells Brothers in the amount of $3,994,752, and (3) an interlocal agreement authorizing CFPUA to reimburse the city for water and sewer relocations related to the project. Beckner said funds are available in the stormwater capital projects fund.
Council moved and approved each item without recorded opposition. The city will coordinate utility relocation work with CFPUA and proceed to execute the construction contract.
