District says planned turf complies with new regs; bid opening set for field work

District administrators updated the board on multiple capital projects, including the turf-field installation, lighting and bleacher work, and planned abatement and unit-ventilator replacements at Petrova.
Superintendent Diane said the turf specification "meets the new requirements," noting the vendor included an alternate bid for different infill options. She said the turf product specified complies with new PFAS-related requirements (the meeting used the term "new regs") and that staff had asked about whether the newer spec would add cost; administrators said it would not increase the upcharge for the district under the current spec.
Construction sequencing was discussed: one option is to begin work after Regents and push completion into the fall (with a risk of missing football season); the other is to start around May 15 to increase the chance of meeting the fall deadline, though that would disrupt spring track schedules. Diane said she had already discussed scheduling tradeoffs with athletics staff and neighboring schools, and asked for local cooperation for practices while the turf installation proceeds.
Administrators also reported that Petrova's first- and second-floor projects (including abatement and unit-ventilator replacement) are mostly ready to be ordered, with significant work scheduled for summer and limited building availability over that time. A bid opening for additional field work was scheduled the following day in the boardroom.
Board members asked about cost, scheduling and the impact on spring sports; administrators said they would provide bid results and scheduling updates after the bid opening.
