Bartlett said the rewrite retitles the policy, replaces the phrase "monetary income" with standard fiscal terminology "revenue," and rewords bullet points so they clearly state that the board will "ensure budget development aligns with the district's strategic direction and plan," guide and monitor expenditures to support student outcomes, and include a focus on effectiveness and transparency.
"The full first bulleted statement was reworded to state ensure budget development aligns with the district's strategic direction and plan," Bartlett said. She described the edits as drafting and alignment changes to reflect the district's upcoming budget work.
Board members generally supported the direction but suggested stylistic edits. One member recommended adding language that explicitly references "public funds" to underscore stewardship of taxpayer dollars, and another offered an alternative opening sentence: "The governing board recognizes that the proper and prudent management of our district's public funding has a foundational effect on the school district's operations." Members agreed Bartlett would circulate revised wording and the item will return for a second reading.
The item did not include a vote; it remains at first reading pending editorial changes.
