D11 board authorizes temporary boost to guest-teacher pay to prevent classroom disruptions

The Colorado Springs School District 11 Board of Education on Dec. 11 authorized the superintendent to increase daily pay for guest teachers and guest special-service providers up to an amount equal to double their current daily pay rate through June 30, 2025, if he deems it necessary to cover shortages.
Director Nelson moved the measure, saying the authority is intended to "ensure that there is no interruption to the student learning environment." The motion was seconded and approved by the board.
Superintendent Gall said administration would implement the directive and present an employee-handbook project plan at the Jan. 15 work session. "We will present the board a project plan of that handbook on January 15 work session," Gall said, adding that the district will "do everything we can" to keep schools open and maintain instruction.
The authorization gives district leadership a short-term tool to address staffing gaps while the board and staff work through the longer-term transition away from the master agreement. The board emphasized its stated priority of minimizing impact on students and preserving instruction during the implementation period.
