Delegate Roberson presented HB 12‑43 on behalf of the Prince George's County delegation, explaining the bill would exempt personal property used by manufacturers with 50 or fewer employees from Prince George's County personal property tax. "This legislation would allow for small manufacturing businesses with 50 or fewer employees to benefit from reduced tax liabilities," the sponsor said.
Julie Verratti, co‑owner of Denizens Brewing Company, testified the annual personal property tax can be tens of thousands of dollars — forcing small manufacturers to sell equipment or steer investment away from the county. "I can't afford that…it's too much for me to handle," Verratti said, adding that the exemption is specific to Prince George's County and would help locally based manufacturers compete.
The committee heard no questions and concluded the brief hearing; the sponsor asked for a favorable report.
