Board honors retiring Higher Ed Center staffer; finance lead announced

The board recognized Debbie Hensley for 23 years of service to the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center and presented a flag flown over the Capitol to honor her retirement.
Executive Director David Matlock led the recognition, saying Hensley had been "technically superb" and "a leader in what we try to produce here in a great culture." Matlock said Hensley frequently worked weekends and was generous with her time; he and legislative members presented a flag and a General Assembly accommodation to thank her.
Matlock also announced that Alicia assumed finance responsibilities effective Dec. 10 and that she and Hensley had prepared a finance “cookbook” of policies and procedures to guide the transition. Matlock noted Hensley had recently experienced a family bereavement and thanked her for continuing to support the Center through difficult days.
Board members and colleagues stood to applaud those who work at the Center and reiterated appreciation for staff contributions.
