"The teachers' contract shows that they work 188 days," she said, noting that teachers, nurses and other salaried staff are paid according to their contracts and that any change requires assessing contractual obligations for hourly staff, paraprofessionals and food service employees.
Board members asked whether the Monday staff day could be a half day to allow staff time to close classrooms; the superintendent recommended a half‑day for staff on Monday so teachers can finish end‑of‑year tasks. Operations/finance staff estimated payroll impacts for paraprofessionals and hourly employees; one staff member (speaker 25) gave an estimate of about $13,600 in total impact, and food service staff explained that half‑day schedules still require preparing for clean‑up work the following day.
Board members also discussed potential effects on families who depend on school meals and daily attendance. Mrs. Passaretti asked whether absences on an excused last day would be marked; the superintendent said students would be marked absent if not sent that day.
After discussion, Chair moved to amend the last day of school so that students' last day is June 13 and Monday, June 16 is a half‑day for teachers and paraprofessionals; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
