Students touring City Hall hear internship, shadowing offers from city law department

James Williams, who said he attends Flat House College Preparatory Academy, said he plans to attend Purdue University West Lafayette for exploratory studies. "So my name is James Williams. I currently attend Flat House College Preparatory Academy, and I plan on going to Purdue West Lafayette for exploratory studies," he said.
A city law department leader who identified herself in the transcript as Carla Morgan (and elsewhere in the transcript also identified as Othenio Mahal) encouraged students to use city internships and shadowing opportunities to explore careers. "We would love to have you come shadow people during the breaks... We would love to have you come intern, come shadow us," the official said, adding that the city has an engineering department, a health department and other offices that relate to students' career interests and that letters of recommendation are available.
The visit included introductions from school administrators: Dr. Daniel Sprouse identified himself as principal of Dearborn Leadership Academy, and Jasmine Pratt identified herself with Steel City Academy. One participant said they were serving as director of athletics in the absence of Mr. Ross for Lighthouse College Prep.
The group planned a short tour of Human Resources and City Hall, after which the moderator said Indiana state senator Mark Spencer was expected to speak to the students. The moderator also checked accessibility needs before the tour, asking whether anyone was uncomfortable taking stairs.
No formal city action or vote was taken during the visit; the event proceeded as a civic engagement and learning opportunity for students, with staff offering follow-up contact for internships and recommendations.
