The Beacon City School District Board of Education used its June 17 meeting to commend teachers who earned tenure and to recognize staff retiring after decades of service.
The ceremony highlighted a range of classroom and support roles. "She's truly a dynamic and passionate teacher and cares greatly about the students of the Beacon City School District," said a presenter (speaker 6) introducing Katie Oriani, a 10‑year recipient at Rombout Middle School. The board also recognized Jim Henry for 31 years of service as a classroom teacher and coach; colleagues recalled his contributions to math instruction and long hours leading track and field programs.
Other tenure recipients called out by the board included Matthew Alisi, recommended for tenure as a speech pathologist at Glenna Elementary, and several Beacon High School educators who were recognized for teaching, counseling and extracurricular leadership. "Miss Morales provides strong support to the approximately 200 students on her caseload," a high‑school presenter said of Sharon Morales, the school's counselor.
The board also acknowledged many retirees across departments: classroom teachers, teacher aides, custodial and food service staff, and technology specialists. Presenters cited long tenures and district programs the retirees supported — from farm‑to‑school efforts in food service to enrichment programming in technology and art. Among those recognized were long‑serving employees such as Carla Leahy (food service), Kim Logan Stivali (technology) and Jose Contreras (multiple buildings and bilingual education contributions).
Board members and administrators emphasized the ceremony as a moment to honor institutional knowledge and community ties. The superintendent and board members thanked student board advisors and noted a reception with cake and refreshments would follow the meeting for honorees and guests.
The board then moved on to routine business and votes. No public comments were made during the public‑comment period at the start of the meeting.
