Frisco adopts 2024 International Fire Code; resident praise references recent Rail District funding

Frisco City Council voted 6–0 on Jan. 6 to adopt the 2024 International Fire Code, repealing ordinance 2022-12-67 and amending the Frisco Code of Ordinances.

The measure, listed on the agenda as item 48, was read into the record by the mayor. During public comment, Scott Hoffner thanked council for actions taken at a previous Dec. 2 meeting — specifically, he said, the allocation of $1.5 million for the Rail District — and urged officials to move quickly on marketing now that lanes have reopened. "When you give a grant, you allow us to market and you allow us to bring people into the rail district for the whole rail district, not just us individually," Hoffner said.

Staff and council clarified that the Jan. 6 item before the council concerned the fire-code update; Hoffner's remarks referenced a separate December action that he said will help Rail District businesses. After public comment, council approved the fire-code ordinance with a unanimous vote.

Why it matters: Updating to the 2024 International Fire Code aligns Frisco’s code with the latest national model standards used by many municipalities, affecting building- and fire-safety requirements enforced by city inspectors.
