Summary
The Center City tiers board approved a $17,500 contract with LW Hospitality Advisors to produce a downtown Amarillo hotel market study (30–45 days) to evaluate whether the board should revise its 1,200-room goal; vote was unanimous.
The Center City Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone No. 1 board unanimously authorized staff to execute an agreement with LW Hospitality Advisors for a downtown hotel market study, funding the $17,500 cost from the tiers' professional services budget.
Drew told the board the study will analyze downtown economic conditions, demand trends and factors affecting future hotel operations; staff anticipates a 30–45 day timeline and plans to post the finished study on the city's website for prospective developers.
Board members said the study will help determine whether the existing 1,200-room downtown goal remains appropriate given recent growth and new projects. "This will be the first stand-alone hotel study that downtown's done," a staff member said.
The motion to commission the study passed unanimously; the board will use the study to inform any update to the project and financing plan and to guide future incentive and infrastructure decisions.
