The manager noted the CFO role oversees accounting, budgeting, purchasing and financial reporting for a roughly $557,000,000 city budget and about 2,500 employees.
Dr. Ogunremi addressed the council and audience, saying she was "incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead the finance department of the city of Amarillo" and that she looks forward to serving residents and working with department staff. Council members welcomed her and applauded the hiring process, and the mayor expressed appreciation to interim finance director Katrina Owens for her work during the transition.
