Bellefontaine council approves $38,500 in supplemental appropriations and adopts Roth 457(b) employee plan

The Bellefontaine City Council voted to approve a supplemental appropriations ordinance totaling $38,500 for police, fire repairs and vehicle maintenance and adopted an ordinance authorizing the city to offer an Ohio Preferred Compensation Roth 457(b) plan to city employees.

The Finance Committee chair, Missus Baker, presented the supplemental appropriations request at the council meeting and moved to pass the ordinance on second reading; the motion was seconded by Mister Aylor and received unanimous vocal affirmation from council members. The ordinance covers $38,500 in additional appropriations for police and fire and vehicle maintenance.

Missus Baker then brought forward the adoption agreement authorizing the city auditor to execute paperwork to offer the Roth 457(b) option to employees. She moved to adopt the ordinance on third reading; Mister Springs seconded. Council members again responded affirmatively in roll-call fashion and the ordinance was declared adopted.

The council did not debate either item at length during the meeting. No speakers raised objections and no amendments were offered. Next steps are administrative: the auditor will execute the adoption agreement for the deferred compensation plan, and departments will receive the supplemental funds through the city's appropriations process.

The ordinances were adopted at the meeting; the council scheduled an executive session later in the agenda to discuss a separate real property matter.
