Police Chief Bartlett updated the council on equipment, staffing and technology projects at the department.
Bartlett said two patrol Explorers that were on order have been delayed and that one ordered pickup truck has been assigned a vehicle identification number and carries a build date of July 29. "The pickup truck that we had ordered on order actually has been assigned to VIN, which means it's going to be built. It has a build date of July 29," Bartlett said.
He announced two recent hires: Jade Shewie, who joined from the Champaign County Sheriff's Office, and Colin Star, who came from Kenton Police. Bartlett said both have more than five years of prior experience and are expected to shorten training timelines.
Bartlett also said the department has ordered a drone supported through capital financing, expected to arrive in September, and that a pending grant application may fund an additional drone later this year. He noted that planned computer upgrades and a required 9-1-1 system update that had been slated for June were pushed and are now anticipated in September.
Bartlett invited council members to contact him for further details and thanked the council for support on staffing and equipment items.
