Community education expands preschool registration and early‑childhood screening efforts

White said "DPSP fall registration is open" and reported 88 preschool students currently registered (capacity 154; target roughly 120). She noted the district is working to reach families of 3‑ and 4‑year‑olds and plans another open house. For summer programming, White said Tiger Kids Club currently has about 215 students signed up (176 K–6 and 39 pre‑K) and that registration may close soon depending on staffing.
White emphasized early childhood screening as a district priority: she said the district has about 76 potential kindergarteners who need screening and that only 15 of the current 88 preschoolers have been screened so far. To increase coverage the district plans to extend screening hours (from a historical 8–11:30 schedule to as late as 2 p.m.), add some Saturdays, and add an additional screener.
White said the district will also coordinate screenings with preschool conferences in an effort to screen more children earlier so teachers can have information sooner.
She encouraged families to register for preschool and noted outreach plans including visits to community partner sites.
