The Planning & Zoning Board of the Town of Harrisburg voted to recommend that Town Council approve a rezoning request for two parcels on Weddell Court, case H2023‑O2‑R. Senior planner Craig Thomas told the board the two lots total about 2.13 acres and the request would change the county LDR (low‑density residential) designation to the town's RM (residential medium‑density) zoning to allow connection to town water and sewer.
"Staff is recommending approval to Town Council," Craig Thomas said during his presentation, noting the parcels (PINs 5506‑66‑9260 and 5506‑760274) are vacant and that tapping into town utilities is the primary driver of the annexation and rezoning request. Thomas told the board the request is consistent with the Harrisburg Area Land Use Plan.
Board members asked questions about access from a gated subdivision and whether utilities and emergency services could reach the parcels. Thomas said water and sewer are available along Robinson Church Road and that typical utility extensions and fire‑safety provisions would be evaluated during annexation and permitting.
A board member moved that the Planning & Zoning Board recommend approval; the motion carried and the board adopted a consistency statement saying the rezoning is "consistent with the Harrisburg area land use plan and is reasonable and in the public interest." The recommendation goes to Town Council for final action.
