Council approves routine purchases, surplus sales and appointments; waives two dredging assessment accelerations

The Town Council approved a series of routine but consequential administrative actions at its Jan. 12 meeting.
Public Works received authorization to surplus an underperforming multi‑hog machine and to offer it for sale on GovDeals. Council also approved purchase of approximately 296 six‑foot fence panels at $5,928 to replace rented fencing at 429 4th Street, with staff noting the town may seek to assess the property owner for costs where appropriate.
Council approved waivers of acceleration for two property owners in the shallow‑draft navigational dredging assessment program after those owners made partial payments and asked to reinstate remaining installments. The council also passed a resolution urging state and federal agencies to require comprehensive environmental mitigation, long‑term monitoring and adaptive management for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wilmington Harbor 403 project; staff will distribute the resolution to relevant agencies.
Appointments to the Grand Strand Area Transportation Study (GSATS) policy committee were approved, naming Sean Arnold as replacement member and Mike Posdel as alternate. Council also approved a modest police department remodel to convert a weight room to detective offices and adopted UNC School of Government suggested rules of procedure for council and town boards (effective March 1 for boards).
