Auditors give Town of Sunset Beach a clean opinion for FY 2024–25; council accepts report

The town's auditors presented an unmodified opinion on the June 30, 2025 financial statements and reported no internal control findings, no budget overages, and generally positive financial trends.
"We issued an unmodified opinion…That's our highest level of assurance," Lee Grissom of S. Preston Douglas and Associates told the council, noting strong reserves (more than 12 months of general fund reserves at 106% in one metric) and healthy cash balances. The auditor praised finance staff for timely preparation and said there were no disagreements with management.
Finance Director Tara earlier summarized debt positions and budget amendments and told council that staff will include a detailed breakout in the presentation materials. Council moved to accept the audit report for the year ending 06/30/2025 and the motion carried with no recorded opposition.
