Doctor ******, presenting the calendar changes, said staff had "6 makeup days that we've added to the end of the year," and explained the split spring break was intended "so we don't miss an extra day." The board moved, seconded and approved the calendar revision.
Staff recommended the last day of school be amended to May 29, 2026, as a full day, with makeup days conducted May 21–29 and Memorial Day observed on May 25. The board also approved graduation schedules for the class of 2026: Castlewood High School on May 17 at 1 p.m., Lebanon High School on May 17 at 4 p.m., Honaker High School on May 17 at 7 p.m., and the Russell County Career and Technology Center on Thursday, May 21 at 6 p.m. at Lebanon High School.
Board members asked no substantive follow-up questions during the vote and the measures carried without recorded opposition. The calendar amendments and graduation dates will be reflected in the district schedule and communicated to families and staff.
The board voted to approve the revision during the regular business meeting; no additional committee votes were recorded and the item will not return to committee before the implementation described by staff.
