District 11 spotlights student achievements, STEM pathways and unified sports

The District 11 board used Wednesday's meeting to celebrate student accomplishments across the district.
Board members and Superintendent Gahl recognized Holmes Middle School's eighth-grade orchestra, Doherty High School's Spartan Legion marching band for a top-12 state semifinal finish, Coronado High School regional champions in tennis and cross country, Sabin's robotics teams (Alpha, Bravo, Delta) and Mitchell and Doherty Unified bowling teams for regional and state placements. Student and coach representatives described teamwork, program growth and upcoming events: Doherty band will appear in the Festival of Lights Parade and the unified sports programs will hold jamborees and theater celebrations this month.
In the superintendent's spotlight, Gahl highlighted apprenticeship and CTE partnerships (more than 350 students attended an apprenticeship fair at Wasson campus and 25 external partners participated), and he announced several schools earned accreditation "with distinction" based on the school performance framework, including Chipeta Elementary at 91.8%.
School leaders and student speakers emphasized project-based learning, engineering-design projects in STEM labs, and district investments in pathways that administrators said drive increases in enrollment and achievement.
